Lawn renovation and overseeding in Oxford
Repair a struggling lawn before ongoing care.
A lawn overwhelmed by moss, weeds or bare patches may need more than seasonal feeding. I work out why it has deteriorated, agree the preparation with you and rebuild the grass before any ongoing care programme begins.

I assess the soil, drainage, shade, mowing and wear. Weed seeds readily take hold where thin grass exposes the soil, so restoring dense grass matters as much as removing existing weeds. Manual removal or a selective treatment may help, depending on the lawn.
Where moss treatment is needed, heavy scarification follows at the appropriate interval to remove dead moss and unwanted material. Hollow-tine aeration addresses compaction where required. Treatment labels and growing conditions determine the sequence: this is not necessarily a one-day job.
Overseeding includes establishment materials
The overseeding treatment combines grass seed selected to suit the lawn, a very thin covering of premium fine-grade organic lawn dressing, pre-seed fertiliser and initial watering-in. Around 3 mm of fine organic dressing lightly covers the seed without burying the existing grass.
The dressing helps retain moisture around the seed and makes it less exposed to birds. It gradually decomposes and helps feed the developing grass. You will still need to water consistently while the seed establishes.
Levelling is a separate preparation job
Organic compost decomposes, so this thin dressing is not intended to permanently correct dips or levels. Where levelling is needed, suitable soil or a soil-and-sand mix is selected for the existing ground. Larger hollows may require lifting turf before filling and firming, then replacing the turf or seeding.
It is usually best to correct levels and any drainage problems before seeding. They can be addressed later, but the work is often slower and more disruptive. Any such work is discussed and priced separately.

What to expect
How the work is carried out
Agree the recovery plan
Identify the underlying problems and confirm preparation, materials, waste removal and aftercare before booking.
Prepare the ground
Carry out the agreed weed or moss work, scarification, hollow-tine aeration and any separately quoted level corrections.
Seed and establish
Apply the selected seed, thin organic dressing, pre-seed fertiliser and initial watering, followed by clear establishment advice.
Looking after the lawn afterwards
You will need to maintain suitable moisture after the initial watering-in. Water gently so the seed is not washed away, keep the seedbed moist rather than waterlogged, and minimise traffic. I discuss water access before work and explain when mowing can resume. Seed choice, temperature, moisture and growing conditions all affect establishment.
One-off work or ongoing care?
A full lawn renovation is quoted separately from Essential, Complete and Premium. Premium includes an annual maintenance overseeding establishment treatment, not an unlimited renovation of a severely deteriorated lawn. The appropriate starting point is confirmed during the free assessment.

Can a badly damaged lawn go straight onto a monthly plan?
Not always. I may recommend an initial renovation before ongoing maintenance. The renovation quotation and any later annual programme are agreed separately, so the starting condition is allowed for honestly.
Are seed, dressing and fertiliser included?
Yes, these go together in the agreed overseeding treatment. The quotation sets out labour, materials and any waste removal so you know the full cost before booking. No VAT is currently charged.
When is renovation best carried out?
Suitable spring or early-autumn conditions usually provide an opportunity, but timing depends on the lawn, soil moisture and the ability to water new seed. I also allow the required interval between any weed or moss product and subsequent seeding.
